email to Joao:

I wanted to remember something I was thinking about, and thought I would dash it off to you as a nemonic device.  Of course now I forget what it was.  Isn't that a perfect irony?

I had such a good day today, and why??  Because of other people.  These happened to include another cancer patient I met, a woman named Randy, the aforementioned research fellow, another cancer patient I met, my nurse -- in short almost everyone I saw at the hospital.  My parents.  Everyone, in short, but you.  I discovered a deep well of gratitude.  Now I know (this may sound corny but it is absolutely mystically 100% true) why people make such a big deal out of the L-word.  LOVE occupies an entire parallel universe to ours, and when it is flips into our dimension, detectable in the sudden spontaneous outbursts of effort on behalf of one another, it reverses time.  And as an aside, the intentions and attentions of other people have buoyed me through this er- rocky passage. All the stuff you do for your brothers, you mother, sisters, cousins, nephews, oh-my-god, father, nieces. . . everyone but me. . .  it ALL is stored in reservoirs of strength that these people will carry with them and dole out to other people in turn.  I think it has exponential properties.  Anyway...  Don't get a sweet tooth.  I promise to lapse into bitter hatred and misery as soon as you get back.

We ate a beautiful big omelette, my parents and I, last night. - Kartoffel something frühstuck eiß - potato breakfast eggs --with potatoes and onion, with cheddar parsnips and a little broccoli.

In a war with sacrifices of young people, maiming injuries, what is the one thing they all agree across the board?  They don't want the war to have been for nothing.  They have experienced such hardship ... there is going to be a very sad population of young people in America..."

Stupid reporter.  She asks Bush, "Has this been a painful time?"  A perfect opportunity for endless oleaginous proclamations.  "Ah haven't questioned the necessity for the American people...  I mean ah've questioned it but I determined it is necessary, and I firmly believe... deal with terrorists so that they don't hurt us...  the most painful moments of the presidency... asked young men and women to lose their lives."  yi - i - i - iiiiich.

Anyway I should get back to my hapless attempts at neatening.  Stopped at the worse mess stage.
